THE SHAMAN’S LAST APPRENTICE DOCUMENTARY
From the mountains of Machu Pichu to the Amazon rainforest, this short documentary will take you on a journey to learn how the people of the Peruvian Amazon live, and how the Shaman’s work with Ayahuasca, and other powerful plant medicines.
Filmed in 2012, by Alexander Ward, this documentary charts my story of how I met a Plant Medicine Shaman in 1998, while working in a hotel in Machu Picchu, and became his apprentice.

THE SHAMAN'S LAST APPRENTICE
The Story of a Modern-Day Urban Shaman
What happens when you follow a calling that pulls you far beyond the life you were expected to live?
In 1997, Rebekah Shaman left London to take up a position managing a hotel in Machu Picchu, Peru. She expected nothing more than a year working in one of the most extraordinary places on Earth.
Instead, the experience unravelled her life.
Isolated in the Andes and pushed to her limits, everything came to a head when she fell down a mountainside in a life-changing near-death experience. In the aftermath of that fall, she received a vision of a Shaman calling her from deep within the Amazon rainforest.
Trusting the vision, Rebekah left the mountains and travelled into the jungle, where she eventually found the man she had seen — the teacher who would become her one and only shamanic guide.
Living with him and his family in the Amazon, she entered a world few Westerners ever encounter: a world of ancient plant medicine, shamanic initiation, and profound transformation.
The Shaman’s Last Apprentice is the true story of that journey — and of what can happen when life forces us to let go of everything we thought we were, in order to discover who we truly are.

BEYOND ILLUSION
Read the sequel to The Shaman’s Last Apprentice…
After my first book ‘The Shaman’s Last Apprentice’ was published in 2004, many people asked me what happened next. I knew one day that I would write book two. When I returned to the Peruvian Amazon to finish my plant medicine apprenticeship in October 2012, I started writing the sequel. The jungle gave me the distance and solitude I needed to integrate, articulate and express what’d happened to me on my return to England in 1998.
Beyond Illusion is a stunning memoire of my attempt to reconcile my profound transformation after leaving the Amazon with my life in Europe, and the modern Western world. A moving and thought provoking personal story told with honesty humility and incredible courage.
